Keetons are still the most proven and widely accepted in-furrow seed-firming device for planters (Rebounders don’t do any seed firming). When combined with our Mojo Wire, the Keetons supply nearly as much pressure as a ‘seed-lock’ wheel, and they are excellent for getting consistent stands every time.
The redesigned ‘Quick Attach’ Keeton for 2017 will quickly displace the Universal Keeton as the top choice for most planter models. Like the Universal, the ‘Quick Attach’ also ‘wraps-around’ the seed tube & has replaceable tails. However, the Quick Attach has a much sturdier bracket that’s easier to install. And tails are super-easy to replace.
Another model that uses replaceable tails is the Scraper-Mount, which is the only Keeton that fits Kinze EdgeVac or any Kinze 3000s built in 2013 & after (oversize seed tubes), as well as Kinze 4000s. The Scraper-Mount does also fit some earlier Kinzes as well as Deeres, but we recommend using Quick Attach or the Universal Keetons whenever possible because they hold the tails about 1.5″ farther forward (closer to the seed tube), which is an advantage for controlling seed bounce as well as the firmer tail arriving at the seed’s location before the sidewall has caved in.
The original Seed-Tube-Mounted Keetons are also available. This model is required for all Monosems, Great Plains Yield Pro, and White 5000s. While these do fit other planters, we recommend using Quick Attach or Universals whenever possible to eliminate the stress on the seed tube.
“I went back to regular Keetons with Mojo Wires and love them. No more dirt buildup. Zero. [However,] in 3,000 acres, Keetons were shot on 24-row. I used to fight soft ground and dirt buildup but this fixed it and depth consistency was a major improvement….I love the Mojos—great product!”Brandon Grubbs
“I run Keetons with Exapta’s Mojo Wire. They give the Keetons more down-pressure. Doesn’t seem to drag seed and the seed is firmly in the v. There is no buildup on the tail anymore. I am mostly corn-on-corn no-till.”Steve Litwiller
“I love the Mojo Wires. Amazing—the best stands I ever had, bar none. It looks like every plant came up within 15 minutes of each other. Perfect stands.”Tom Cannon
“The Mojo Wire is the best thing that ever happened to the Keeton….The last two years [’09 & ’10] were the wettest ever for us, and, shoot, we never had mud balling up like we used to [without the Mojos]. I sure wouldn’t run a Keeton without a Mojo Wire.”Ralph Holzwarth
