THE POSITION: Exapta is currently seeking to fill a full-time research and product development manager position. Help develop our product line, including various R&D projects in the works (engineered by farmers and/or vendors) and more R&D projects urgently needing to be added. Wide variety of materials and processes used currently: Mostly weldment, metal castings, injection-molded plastics, etc. This is a work remote position however, travel to and from farms within KS, OK, as well as to our headquarters in McPherson, KS is required. The primary responsibilities will be working closely with engineers for research, planning, and implementation of new products; establishing project goals and priorities by collaborating with the sales department; research, design and evaluate materials, assemblies, processes and equipment; document all phases of research and development; build prototypes and conduct product testing both in-house and on-farm; keeping an eye on developing trends with a sound understanding of current market conditions within the no-till planting sector. We need someone who is eager to help improve farmers’ success with their no-till efforts, and get them the products and know-how to further that. The cool part of the job is getting to interact with some of the cutting-edge no-tillers from around the world, and continual learning as we improve the technology and knowledge for the most effective way to establish vigorous crops in no-till.
QUALIFICATIONS: The right person for the job will be diligent, methodical, detail oriented, able to work independently and without close supervision (i.e., a self-starter), and enthusiastic for no-till planting equipment and the ag industry. We’re looking for someone who is honest, forthright, and a problem solver, with a creative mind, that can dive in and keeping various projects moving along. He or she will relish working with farmers to assist in deployment of effective techniques for profitable no-till cropping. Experience in AutoCAD, manufacturing or engineering is preferred, but not required. Must have solid computer skills. We have no engineers on staff currently, so you would create the engineering department for us, hopefully to be expansive in coming years. We’re an established company with strong growth prospects: an exciting juncture for those who like to challenge themselves. Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) preferred, but not required. Hands-on knowledge of no-till farming and planters/drills required. Do not apply if you don’t meet these requirements. COMPENSATION: Competitive base salary depending on experience; additional percentage of base contributed to SEP-IRA retirement account; paid vacation.
