While
air drills offer tremendous advantages in terms of capacity and
acres per day, the added velocity of seed often
creates substantial problems with more seed bounce—causing many seeds to be
misplaced (i.e., not at the bottom of the furrow), and therefore
in a poor position for germination. The exciting new D-Cup
Diffuser gives you the best of both worlds: High capacity plus
precision!
Most openers were intended for low-velocity gravity-feed, not
the high speeds of today’s air carts. Nor do most designs
provide any method for relieving the air pressure other than as
the air stream carrying the seeds exits the opener—carrying them
right on out of the furrow!
The problem is two-fold: more velocity on the seed creates more
bounce (which generally isn’t easily ‘contained’ by
the opener blade/boot/tube and furrow sidewalls), plus the pressurized
air itself can carry seed out of the furrow as it escapes into
the atmosphere upon exiting the bottom edge of the boot/tube. This
is a common problem especially on the JD 50, 60, and 90-series
single-disc openers, on CNH’s SDX drill, on the Borgault
single-disc, as well as for many other disc and shank seed openers
that are fed by a pressurized air stream.
The resolution is at hand, with the D-Cup
Diffuser, which offers
much greater venting of air than some other “air brake” designs,
and is proven to be simple and highly effective. The D-Cup Diffuser
is quite helpful for both small and large seeds and doesn’t
have any internal screens or deflectors, which are prone to blockages
and can damage seeds during impact. Overall, the D-Cup Diffuser makes air-seeding systems easier to use and more capable of delivering
fast and consistent germination results.
