| It’s critical to
understand just what you’re trying to accomplish with your
planter or drill before you start making adjustments or buying
upgrades. While placing seeds into the soil is nothing new, doing
so with structured no-till soil conditions certainly is a relatively
recent development (apologies to those who’ve been doing
it for 30 years already). Since the concepts and methods aren’t
all that intuitive or obvious, we’ve assembled this event
to help you think through the process. (To be quite honest, even
us ‘experts’ learn some important new things every
year in the field.)
There’s nothing like hands-on experience and observation—that’s
what the attendees find at Exapta’s No-Till Seeding Schools
every year. The Exapta crew takes pride in the event, in which
we demonstrate a wide assortment of attachments for planters & drills,
including a chance to observe them functioning the day of the School,
as well as the growing crops that were planted earlier with the
same configuration (usually 12 rows or more of different attachments,
adjustments, and/or worn components). Here’s an opportunity
not just to compare the choices, but also to learn of some of the
interactions amongst the components of your seeder’s openers.
Matt Hagny, Exapta’s founder and President, distills it
down to need-to-know points about your seeding tool, whether a
planter or a drill, often with some helpful agronomic information
for good measure. Experienced no-till farmers round out the presentations,
including Kent Stones, Doug Palen, Craig Stehly, Keith & Ben Thompson
and many others. The program provides an interactive (and perhaps
even entertaining) format in a relaxed setting for a pleasant learning
process.
Stay tuned for info on next year’s No-Till Seeding School
(dates/location TBA).
We’d like to thank our past Seeding School hosts, including
Craig & Gene Stehly, Joe Swanson, David Young, and Doug & Tracey
Palen.
What past attendees are
saying:
"We always get a lot out of your Seeding Schools. We feel
comfortable no-tilling now."
—Lennie Blain, D.S.&R. Cordel, Cawker City, KS (multi-year
attendees)
"Well worthwhile. Very
informational. One of the better things I've done—I
could actually see what I was supposed to be doing, rather than
just hearing someone talk about it. The planter demonstration was
impressive as to the differences in what we're doing with
the operation of each component. Time well-spent."
—Glenn Bauer, Regan, ND
"The Seeding School was really worthwhile. The guys need to be there—they should be going every year."
Tom Rabern, Huron, SD (multi-year attendee)
"The Seeding School is very enlightening"
